At an accelerated and trembling pace, spinning around aimlessly, he thought that closing his eyes would not prevent him from seeing the wolf's ears.

 

Once he recognized the problem, he rolled up his shirt sleeves and jumped into the pool. By the time he had gotten his head out of the water, he realized that the wolf was still sitting there, he hadn't left.

And he thought it didn't matter, so he started swimming.
